Bridges delay Highway widening

Frustrated commuters may finally find Highway 10 construction completed by the time the snow flies this fall, but a Ministry of Transport source suggests the two bridges between Orangeville and Caledon Village are the biggest obstacle to that.

Communications Officer Will Mackenzie said in a phone interview Wednesday that since the Credit River is classified as "navigable" and has fish, the bridges are subject to rules set by both the provincial Ministry of Natural Resources and the federal Fisheries Department.

"We have to be very careful about what we do," he said. However, he said Highway 10 will still be widened to four lanes north to Highway 9.

As for the widening at Caledon Village, Mr. Mackenzie said construction is progressing on schedule.
