Photo/MIKE MALONEY ONTARIO CHAMPIONS. For the second year in a row, the Rayburn Construction Northmen have again risen to the top as Ontario Junior A lacrosse champions. While early favourites to repeat in 2009, the Northmen had to fight back from a 3-0 series deficit, winning four straight to defeat the Brampton Excelsiors before a packed house at the Tony Rose on Monday night. Orangeville will now go on to defend their Canadian Championship, playing in the Minto Cup tournament which starts this Saturday in Brampton. For more, see story on page B1. More...

Attack victim continues her recovery

Lenore Wirtz is continuing to recover at home, her family at her side, after being savagely attacked five weeks ago by a complete stranger brandishing a knife. Ms. Wirtz was attacked at her place of employment, Creek Side Clothing Company, on July 11. Her assailant repeatedly stabbed her, puncturing her lungs and liver and nearly severing her left hand. The funding, which comes from the federal Recreational Infrastructure Canada program and Recreation Ontario.
