Local young amputees back from seminar
Morgan Placzek, 13, and Kiernan Rogers, 5, of Orangeville, have returned from The War Amps 2009 Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar in Kingston.
Morgan, born missing part of both arms, and Kiernan a left leg amputee, attended the three-day seminar, which dealt with all aspects of growing up as an amputee.
In one seminar session, child amputees demonstrated their standard and recreational artificial limbs and devices to the group. Kiernan himself has a waterproof swim leg.
"The seminar is a lifechanging experience for both Champs and parents," says War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton. "It's a packed weekend covering everything from raising an amputee child to dealing with teasing and staring, to seeing the latest developments in artificial limbs."
At the seminar, Kiernan was presented with a CHAMP Ambassador Certificate for doing War Amps PLAYSAFE and Amputation Awareness presentations at his and other local schools.
CHAMP and all its programs are funded solely through public support of The War Amps Key Tag and Address Label Service.
