Walk for Suicide Awareness, Prevention coming

In honor of World Suicide Prevention Day, a Community Torchlight will be taking place next Wednesday, Sept. 2.

A first-ever fundraiser for Dufferin County, The Walk for Suicide Awareness and Prevention will run from 6 to 9 p.m. starting in Alexandra Park, behind Orangeville's Town Hall. This event will feature an opening ceremony with local dignitaries and spokespersons starting at 6 p.m.

The walk route will take you from the park west up Broadway. Throughout the evening, participants can enjoy a free concert with local talent "Justin MacDonald Band" and "Darling Ouiseaux's" in the park gazebo, children's activities, Pizza Pizza will be on site to offer food and beverages, community resource groups will be present to educate the public about resources in Dufferin county and a candlelight vigil will take place during the walk in memory of those we have lost to suicide.

All are welcome. The event will start at 6, with the walk commencing at 6:30pm. Please first register at the information booth in Alexandra Park. Music and activities will continue throughout the event.

Suicide rates across the world and in our own community at this time are likely to be impacted by not only life's daily pressures but the unexpected current economic changes.
