What are the repercussions?

The surface of the Earth is more than 2/3 water. Of all that water, only 2.5% is Fresh Water. Canada is blessed with approximately fourteen percent of the World's Fresh Water. Half of Canada's Fresh Water is being stored in glaciers, permafrost, or underground.

Canadians are becoming more concerned with our stewardship of this precious resource.

The residents of Simcoe County have won a hard fought battle by forcing their municipal government to put one-year moratorium on its plan to develop a landfill over an aquifer.

The Site 41 Dump near Elmvale is over, arguably one of the pristine sources of water in the Province. An aquifer that stretches from Georgian Bay to the Oak Ridges Moraine. It provides water for thousands of Ontarians.

The residents of Melancthon are voicing their concerns about a proposal to allow the development of a quarry that would extract limestone from below the water table. However, nothing has been said concerning the gravel pit that is adjacent to the Mono Nordic Ski Club.

What impact will the expansion of the existing quarry have on the aquifer that services the Town of Orangeville, residents in Amaranth and in nearby subdivisions of the Town of Mono?

Only the negative repercussions on the ski club are being considered and discussed.
