Greens all candidates leadership debate

The Green Party of Ontario will elect a new leader at a convention November 13-15, in London.

Locally, the party's Dufferin-Caledon riding association will hold a leadership debate in Orangeville on Saturday, afternoon, Sept. 19.

The items up for discussion include aggregate extraction, where the party is calling for increased tonnage fees to compensate municipalities for direct costs and loss of quality of life, minimization of the number of pits by reducing the demand for aggregate through recycling and reduced sprawling development.

It also wants to reduce income and corporate taxes by shifting taxes to non-renewable resource consumption; and to have a single publicly funded education system that treats all students fairly.
