Crushers kick off season with 5-3 win

      Their first ten minutes on the ice may have been a little less than inspiring, but once the jitters settled down and the opening night butterflies dissipated, the Orangeville Crushers got down to the business at hand, defeating the Toronto Junior Canadiens 5-3 in their first game of the 2009-10 Central Canadian Hockey League schedule.

      LOCAL JUNIOR HOCKEY hockey fans had the rare opportunity to see some of the OHL's best at the Alder Street Community Centre last Friday night. Playing a pre-season exhibition game, Brampton squared off against Owen Sound with the Battalion doubling up 4-2 over the Attack.

      THE 2009 season drew to a close for the Shelburne Thunder U14 Girls soccer club this past weekend. Playing host at Greenwood Park for the L6 division Cup playoffs, Shelburne found themselves up a determined Woolwich squad who dominated from start to finish and shut out the Thunder in semi-final action.

      The Orangeville Outlaws marked the official end to the 2009 season, hosting their annual BBQ and Awards day at Island Lake Conservation Area on Saturday.

U12 Girls advance to Cup finals
      The Orangeville Zehrs U12 girls competed in the SWRSL Cup play downs held in Rockwood on the weekend. Their first game of the day found them up against Guelph and as usual, Orangeville dominated. Rachael Dougherty was not very busy in the Storm nets but came up tall when called upon.

      If you have athletes or couch potatoes in your house, a great activity for them during the winter season, is to step into some cross country skiis and keep going. The Mono Nordic Racing Program is inviting people out to their Open House and Registration Day.
