Outlaws hand out the hardware

The Orangeville Outlaws marked the official end to the 2009 season, hosting their annual BBQ and Awards day at Island Lake Conservation Area on Saturday.

Each of the Atom, Peewee and Junior Varsity squads handed out awards for Most Improved Player, offensive and defensive MVP's as well team overall Most Valuable Player as well as the new Steve Thiele Atom Trophy and the prestigious Nolan and Coyne Memorial trophies.

The Atoms were first onto the awards podium. Most Improved honours went out to Curtis Filler while Jake Smith and Griffin Hayward received the offensive and defensive MVP awards respectively. To the surprise of few, Nathan Small garnered the Team MVP trophy. Sean Clapperton found his name would be the first inscribed to the newest of the Outlaw awards when he was presented the Steve Thiele Award.

Peewee accolades went out to JD Cameron as Team MVP while Evan Bryk - offense and Justin Taylor - defense earned MVP titles for their efforts on the field. Most Improved Peewee recognition went out to Marino Bortolussi.

For the JV squad, their were a few contenders for each of the positions but the field was narrowed down to the following winners.

Most Improved Player recognition went out to Zack Gadde and Jamal Kett was rewarded for his efforts with the Outlaws, being named the Junior Varsity Offensive MVP for 2009.

Playing a big role with the defensive unit this season, Scott Roswell earned Junior Varsity Defensive MVP honours while quarterback Sam Hogenhout got the nod for his role on the field and off, named as Team MVP.

Hogenhout made the trip to the podium one more time before the afternoon was out to accept the Nolan Memorial Trophy.

Emotions ran high when the parents of the late Peter Coyne presented the Coyne Memorial trophy to Adam Stewart for most sportsmanlike player.

With the 2009 awards presentations out of the way, preparations for next year will begin in earnest on October 7th. The league will be holding it's annual general meeting between 7 and 9 p.m at the Alder Street Arena at which time, elections for the executive and directors will also take place.
