The Orangeville Zehrs U12 girls competed in the SWRSL Cup play downs held in Rockwood on the weekend.

Their first game of the day found them up against Guelph and as usual, Orangeville dominated.

Rachael Dougherty was not very busy in the Storm nets but came up tall when called upon.

Goals were a premium with the Guelph goalie and her best friend - the posts, holding the high power Zehrs crew offence scoreless. That was until the was when with five minutes remaining, Orangeville winger Cidnee Sarginson scored on a through ball from Ciara Velinor that found the back of the net to break the goose eggs and give Orangeville a 1-0 victory.

In the semi's against Stratford, Orangeville found themselves in unfamiliar territory down 1-0 after they gave up a penalty in the box five minutes into the game.

The Zehrs Girls continued to dominate play and had numerous but could not put the ball in the net.

It was not until with ten minutes left in the game, Natasha Naismith poked the ball passed Stratford's goalie to tie it up.

Going into the overtime Orangeville did not waste and time and just three minutes in Jess Gut took the long throw in from Lindsey Smith that she buried from just outside the 18 yard box low short side on the goalie.

Orangeville now hope to cap off a perfect season with a Cup championship with a win against Owen Sound next Sunday in Kitchener.
