Peewee B Tigers in pre-season play

Over the past two weekends, Orangeville Tigers Peewee B girl's hockey team have participated in the Scarborough Exhibition Series pre-season hockey tournament.

This early competition was the first games of the season for the fresh Tigers team who had yet to play as a unit.

On the opening Saturday, the Tigers ran into some experienced playmakers and dropped 3-0 and 4-0 decisions to London and Oakville.

Sunday morning an inspired Tigers team fell 3- 0 to Sudbury, giving up two goals in the final five minutes including an empty-netter.

Drawing from their improved performance, the Tigers comfortably defeated Barrie 2-0 later that day.

On the second weekend of play, the Tigers first drew the Markham- Stouffville Stars who had previously defeated London.

A solid effort by the Tigers put them up 2-0 but again, Orangeville gave up a pair of goals in the final five minutes including a dramatic Stars power-play marker with their goalie pulled in the last minute of play forcing the Tigers to accept a 2-2 tie.

That evening's tilt matched the Tigers against the Vaughan Flames and despite dominating this game, the Tigers came up on the wrong side of a 1-0 decision.

Orangeville then ended the series with a positive offensive statement on Sunday morning , crushing the Scarborough Sharks 7-0.

Speaking after the exhibition series concluded, Tigers coach Don Williamson said, "I am pleased with their overall play, strong goaltending and defense and I like how we are skating with the higher level teams; we compete well but seem to get a little tired in the third. What encourages me is their tenacity and willingness to learn".

This year the Peewee B Tigers are anchored in goal by Brittany Shand with a solid defensive squad of Lara Granger, Erica Jackson, Melissa Monk, Maggie Scaife and Brittany Still. Up front, the forwards are Meghan Donohoe, Erica Greshuk, Leslie Hamilton, Caroline Meek, Danielle Monk, Ryleigh-Anne Sjouwerman, Erin Thornton, Kristen Traves and Hayley Williamson.

The Peewee B Tigers continue their pre-season with a full slate of exhibition games through September.
