Airport Road scene of fatality

2009-10-01 / Local News

Dufferin OPP Detachment is investigating a motor vehicle collision on Airport Road early Sunday that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Guelph man.

Shortly before 2 a.m., a Pontiac Montana van was southbound on Airport Road five kilometres south of Highway 89 when it veered onto the shoulder, entered the ditch, struck the embankment, rolled over and re-entered the highway where it came to rest on its roof in the middle of the road.

Myles Williams of Guelph, a passenger in the rear seat of the van, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver, also 19, was taken to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto with serious injuries. Two 18-year-old women, also from Guelph, were taken to Stephenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston where they were treated for minor injuries.

Cause of the accident is not known at this time but police say alcohol was not a factor.

Dufferin OPP and Technical Collision Investigators are continuing with their investigation.
