Gun column gets comment

I couldn't help but smile at Mr. Pelton latest column.

"After all, sportsmen do nut go deer hunting with a .38"

• Hunting with a handgun was perfectly legal... until a certain Pierre Elliott Trudeau decided otherwise...

"the NRA was out in force to foil a local jurisdiction's efforts to ban a bullet that had the proven ability to pierce the body armour worn by police officers"

• Soft body armour isn't bulletproof. Any rifle bullets will go through the type of armour the average police officer is wearing. The same thing can be said for arrows and/or any pointy object.

"The program was costly and largely ineffective."

• Could it because criminals do not obey our laws?

"From a personal perspective, could I go on a hunting trip, gaze down the sights and blast a hole in Bambi? No. It just isn't in my nature."

• Same here. If some people want to harvest their own meat, that's OK with me. Personally, I'll let somebody else do the killing and buy it at the butcher shop.

"Gun violence is a real and major concern in this country "

• Maybe it's time we accept the fact that there are no such thing as gun-violence, just like there are no such thing a knifeviolence or car-violence. What we have is a problem with violent and aggressive behaviors, coming from individuals who have no respect for the lives and safety of others.
