Thunder edge Royals
It is fast shaping up as another battle of Dufferin in District 4 Senior Girls basketball.
Last Wednesday, CDDHS and Westside put their unbeaten records on the line as the two met for the first time this season. In traditional fashion, the two squads went at it tooth and nail and, at the final buzzer, it was Westside coming out on top of a 43-40 decision. Leading the scoring parade in this contest was Rachel Krushnisky for CDDHS who posted a 31-point game, followed closely by the Thunder's Katie Rankin with 30 points.
In the junior pairing of the two teams, it was not even close as Westside rolled past the Royals 52-24.
District 10 play finds both the ODSS Junior and Senior teams struggling again this season. After five games, both teams are still in search of their first win as they cross the midway point of their regular season schedules.
Outdoors, ODSS Girls continue to have mixed results on the field hockey pitch. After shutting out Wellington Heights 4-0 last Monday, they were handed a reality check two days later, going down 8-1 at the hands of Centre Wellington.
Up in Shelburne, the defence continues to keep them in games but the offense still struggles as the CDDHS girls found themselves blanked for the third time in as many games, going down 1-0 in their last outing against GCVI.
In soccer action, ODSS Senior Boys made the most of home field advantage on Tuesday afternoon.
Getting production from number of players with Ryan Mantle, Liam Williams, Taylor Ellis and Jason Francour , the Bears doubled up Our Lady of Lourdes, posting a 4- 2 decision to solidify their third place position in the District 10 standings.
The Juniors Bears had been looking to redeem themselves for their last outing, dropping a 6-1 decision at the hands of JF Ross but instead were left cooling their heels for another day after their scheduled Tuesday game versus OLOL was postponed.
Over in District 4 play, Westside Senior Boys find themselves sitting third in their division with a 1-1-2 record while CDDHS is still searching for their first win of the season, sitting fifth at 0-3-2.
On the Junior side of the slate, Westside Thunder Boys look like they will be the team to beat this season. Halfway through the schedule they remain unbeaten with a 4-0 record while CDDHS is tied with Norwell for third with 11 points thanks to their 1-3-1 record.
Boys volleyball is also underway at this time. While the Senior Bears Boys were quickly dispatched 3-0 by visiting St James on Tuesday afternoon, their junior brethren kept things close on the other side of the wall going the distance but, unfortunately, ending up on the wrong side of a 3-2 final.
District 4 play this week will hopefully soon sort things out in the Senior standings as both CDDHS and Westside sit in a fourway tie for second behind unbeaten Norwell.
CHSS could prove to be the fly in the ointment, or just what the doctor ordered, for both teams as they are slated to play both the Royals and Thunder in games Wednesday (results not available at press time) and Monday consecutively.
Those same parings could also affect the junior standings. CDDHS and Westside sit tied for first with identical records of 2-1 as they take on CHSS in their next games as well.
