Avalon nurse an OLTCA award-winner
      As part of its 50th anniversary initiative, the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) has announced four recipients of the first-ever Ontario Long Term Care Association Nursing Leadership Awards. The winners were unveiled and recognized at a special presentation and reception sponsored by 3M Healthcare at the Association's Fall Symposium held in Markham.

Public meeting to launch Mono budget process
      Mono council will begin the process of preparing its 2010 budget next Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a public meeting at the Mono Centre Community Centre. The preparations will continue at the regular council meeting Nov. 10 and the aim is to have the budget finalized by Nov. 24.

Library comes alive at Alder branch
      If one was to pick up one of an eclectic selection of 21 books on display at the Orangeville Library's Alder Street branch last Thursday, the book may have piped up and declared: "Hey, put me down!" The "books" in the "Living Library" were actually people who were there to either speak to, or converse with, those who "checked them out" for a half-hour session.

      Humber college's Orangeville campus will be the scene at noon today of a special lecture on police readiness and terrorism. As part of the Humber Orangeville Campus Fall Lecture Series, Karl Barnhart will present a lecture entitled 'Police readiness in an Emergency - Behind the Thin Blue Line' at the Orangeville Public Library Mill Street location from noon to 1 p.m.

Brampton Flying Club donates banner tow to mark arrival of Torch Relay
      The Brampton Flying Club is taking an active part in Orangeville's Torch Relay celebration. The club has donated 2.5 hours of banner towing, plus a banner, so Orangeville can welcome the Torch Relay in style. The banner, to read "Orangeville Torch Relay" will fly overhead as the Torch Relay arrives in Orangeville on December 28, 2009.

Mono to appeal MTO Hwy 9 speed ruling
      The issue of reducing the speed limit on Highway 9 between First Line EHS and Heart Lake Road has the Mono council on a collision course with the provincial Ministry of Transportation. The town had requested that the province exercise its jurisdiction over the approximate 1.5-kilometre stretch of road and lower the speed limit from its present 80 km/h to 60 km/h.
