Pray for Snow Dance planned by snowmobilers
The Orangeville Snowmobile Club is planning a Pray for Snow Dance to be held Saturday, November 7, at the Monora Park pavilion.
The Orangeville Snowmobile Club is a volunteer group that works with local landowners to allow its trail system to exist.
The work is endless with trails needing to be cleared, signed and marked to a provincial standard.
The group installs culverts or bridges as required, they then maintain (groom) the entire 122 km so that local snowmobilers can have a safe picturesque area to ride without tailoring to the north, as well as the tourist snowmobilers to enjoy the southern trails.
The club links to Hillsburgh, Grey Bruce, Dufferin Drift Busters and Alliston snowmobile club to truly be the hub of snowmobiling in this area.
It has a provincial trail (B109) that runs from the west, through Orangeville and heads to Wasaga Beach.
The Orangeville system gets heavier usage than most clubs in the North.
"On a good weekend we probably see 1,500 sleds pass on the trail," says president Zen Slipenkyj.
All the work is accomplished by a group of about 35 to 40 active volunteers.
To help support the costs associated with having excellent trails the club will be holding its 12th Annual "Pray for Snow dance" at Monora Park on Nov. 7.
Tickets are $15 per person.
