Transportation, trails master plan unveiled

2009-11-19 / Regional News

The first phase of Dufferin County's Active Transportation and Trails (DCATT) Master Plan has now been drafted and made ready for public review.

The plan focuses primarily on non-motorized routes on County-owned lands and roads and builds upon work done by Headwaters Communities in Action's Trails Working Group and the existing trails plans in Dufferin's local municipalities.

Two drop-in style public sessions have been scheduled to collect your input and feedback. They are:

• This Saturday, November 21, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne; and

• Saturday, November 28, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Alder Street Rec Centre in Orangeville.

At each session you will be able to walk through an overview of the work to date, ask questions and provide your feedback and ideas on:

• The project approach;

• The route selection principles, and

• The proposed route alternatives for a Dufferin Trails and AT Master Plan.

With the input from these two session, the consultants will then begin Phase II of their work which will include confirmation of candidate routes and the development of an County-level implementation plan.

It will also suggest how best to partner with local municipalities and others; determine needed funding and maintenance costs; and, offer a strategy for public education and promotion of trails and cycling routes.

If you are unable to attend either session, you can provide input through the Study's Online Survey at http://rs6.net

More information and updates on the study can also be found on the Dufferin County website or by contacting either Trevor Lewis, Director of Public Works at 519-941-2816 x 2601 or Dave McLaughlin of the MMM Group, the study's Senior Project Manager, via email or at 905-882-4211 x 6520.
