Novice Select Flyers declaw Milton 9-0

2009-11-19 / Sports

The Orangeville Novice Selects may have started their season later than others but the young team more than made up for the wait with a convincing 9-0 win over the Milton Winterhawks on Saturday. Playing at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Complex before a largely partisan home crowd, the Flyers controlled the pace of the game from start to finish. Leading 2-0 after one period of play, the Orangeville offence exploded after that, adding four goals in the second and three more in the third for the win.

John Duggan started in goal for the Flyers with Barrett Ockenden taking over the netminding duties midway through the second. With Orangeville's defence making it tough for Milton to get much going in the Flyers end, both Duggan and Ockenden were solid between the pipes, turning away whatever shots came their way.

Flyers offensive stars were easy to find with the line of Bradley Penney, Brody Still and Ben Stenning leading the way. Stenning potted three goals, Still chipped in with two of his own and Penney was the setup man on four Orangeville markers.

Defensively, the team as a whole played very strong, but particularly noteworthy were the efforts of Anthony Wilson and Ben Ferguson, who also added assists to the cause.
