Glad Harper is standing firm
As I attempt to discover the truth about climate change in the wake of the Copenhagen conference, I found your paper to be of particular assistance. Your political cartoonist, La Montagne accused anyone who doesn't believe in climate change as being a "stupid monkey". Columnist Doug Skeates, after bemoaning the fact that Stephen Harper refuses to listen to the results of a poll on climate change, immediately demonstrates his hypocrisy in shutting down discussion by claiming "there can be no debate (about the effects of global warming)" I hate pollution. I can't stand seeing the litter that is tossed out of passing cars onto our roadway. I love breathing fresh air and being able to drink clean water out of my tap.
But I don't appreciate being told by the Queen Elizabeth or Al Gore (who have huge carbon footprints) how to live my life. I don't need to be reminded by some British left wing loon (George Monbot) how disappointed he is with Canada's performance on the world stage.
I'm glad that Harper is standing firm. If I'd wanted my leader to commit to the Kyoto accord or to placate the UN and left-wing non-government organizations, I'd have voted for Dion and his "Carbon Shift".
A word of warning to La Montagne, Skeates and Suzuki: If you continue to insult anyone who disagrees with you and attempt to shut down valid debate, you'd better find another cause to champion, because the pews for this religion are going to be empty.
