Arson alleged in Violet Hill house fire

A fire that destroyed a home in a Violet Hill estate subdivision has led to an owner facing a charge of arson.

The charge was laid by Dufferin OPP after officers from the detachment were called last Saturday night to assist the Rosemont Fire Department in battling the blaze at 9 Kingsland Avenue. On their arrival they found the house fully engulfed in flames. The home was completely destroyed, with damage estimated at $280,000.

Police say a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV was stuck in the ditch on Kingsland Avenue in front of the burning home. Its occupant, Margaret Diane Morgan-McDougall, was arrested at the scene.

Ms. Morgan-McDougall is charged with arson to her own property. She was released from custody following a bail hearing in Orangeville Monday.
