Humber adding interior decorating program

Humber College has announced that an Interior Decorating program will be added to its Orangeville Campus in the fall of 2010.

The program will focus on design development, theory and presentation in studio class, integrated with drafting, CADD

Computer Aided Drafting & Design) and hand drawing classes. In addition, students will study the history of styles, current lighting requirements, business fundamentals, and other courses developed to arm students with the range of knowledge required to go forward and understand the demands and challenges presented by this popular field.

Humber says the students “will explore many design complexities, will learn to resolve challenges and overcome decorating issues. They will learn to use verbal and visual design presentation language throughout the development of complex environments and they will develop a keen understanding of residential design materials, colour theory, furniture and business communications.”

The Interior Decorating program will prepare students to become specialists in décor and design with practical, hands-on training.

This accelerated oneyear program will start in September, with students completing the three semester requirements graduating in late August 2011. The college says career in interior decorating “is about building reputation as an innovator as well as an artisan. Professional Decorators are people that improve the working and living conditions of spaces.”

Humber’s School of Applied Technology offers a range of programs that are interdisciplinary in nature, and focus on design and sustainability. Within the framework of polytechnic vision it currently offers four-year bachelor degrees, two- and three-year advanced diplomas, certificates and apprenticeships.
