Reward offered in 1992 murder

By DAN PELTON

Ontario Provincial Police are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a 1992 murder in the Mount Forest area.

On January 4, 1992, the body of Gregory Murray Lembke, 26, of Ayton, was found lying in a bush lot near Mount Forest. He had been shot in the neck and head at close range with a .410 calibre shotgun.

One spent .410 gauge Remington three-inch No. 6 shot shotgun shell casing and one live .410 Remington shotgun shell were found in the middle of the driveway leading into the area, on the east side of a closed wooden rail gate.

A dark blue 4x4-style pickup truck was seen in Mr. Lembke’s driveway the evening before his body was found.

The suspected murder weapon was discovered four months later in a ditch off the Egremont-Gleneig Townline in what is now Southgate Township, a short distance from where the body was found.

The Norica bolt-action, single-barrel .410 shotgun was confirmed to be the gun that fired the spent shotgun shell found at the murder scene. It had been stolen in a residential break-in late in 1991.

Despite an extensive investigation involving hundreds of interviews, the case remains unsolved.

The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch Unsolved Homicide Investigations Team, in charge of the case, is under the direction of Detective Inspector Ian Maule.

Any person having information regarding the person(s) responsible for the murder of Mr. Lembke should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (705) 329-6111, or their nearest police authority.

Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-222-TIPS (8477), and may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
