Photo/MIKE MALONEY Shelburne Muskies are zeroing in on a lock for second place in the WOAA Northern Division standings as their 2009-10 regular season heads into its final weekend.

Last week, the Fish improved their season record to 13 wins against two losses and two shoot-out losses with convincing 4-1 and 7-1 wins on the road over Ripley and at home against Lucknow.

Friday night it was the Ripley Wolves who fell first to the Fish.

Jeff Bir put Shelburne out to an early lead when he teamed up with Chris Greer and Luke Downey just over four minutes into the first. Ripley would get that back on their first power-play opportunity 1:42 later before Matt Lougheed put the Fish back in the lead to end the first.

Skating scoreless through the second, Josh Duerdin put the heat on Ripley with his fifth of the season with 13:45 left in the third. Then it was Tristan Fairburn wrapping it up, assisted by goalie Rob Senay, with an empty net goal with 1:40 left to play to seal the 4-1 win.

Saturday found Lucknow Lancers falling squarely in the Shelburne sights.

Despite giving up the first goal, the game was all Shelburne's from start to finish.

Zac Duerdin would scored in each of the three periods to record the hat-trick while Brad Horan, Derek Smith, Greer and Downey each tallied singles.

This upcoming weekend, Shelburne finds themselves in action all three days. Friday night it is off to Elora for what many feel will be a showdown between the top two contenders for this years WOAA Senior Mens hockey title.

Saturday and Sunday finds the Fish back at home on "The Pond" of the CDRC.

First they will go up against against Walkerton Capitals at 8 p.m. Saturday and then wrapping up the regular season at 2 p.m Sunday afternoon against Palmerston in a game that was rescheduled from December.
