Crushers on thin ice
Editors note - Game four of this best of seven series was scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening and final results were unavailable at press-time
Its not quite the position anyone around the Crusher dressing room imagined they would be in their CCHL quarterfinal against Streetsville, trailing the Derby's three games to none heading into game four of this best of seven playoff series.
In particular, it’s a spot Orangeville coach Dale Hawerchuk can't really explain, but is confident his team can overcome. "We have some work to do. We are down and a lot of people feel we are out. But I don't. Every game of this series we have been outplaying them but we just can't seem to get it done. Right now, we need to grab this next game and get some momentum swinging back our way".
While giving credit to Streetsville for the job they have done so far, Hawerchuk knows his team can win, " We know we can beat that team, right now the key is just to find a way".
But finding that way could be a tall order for the Crushers. After dropping game one last Wednesday 3-2 in overtime, Orangeville has turned up the heat in their last two games, out shooting the Derbys 26- 20 and 48-32 consecutively but been held to just two goals – both off the stick of Steven Beyers – but have come up short 3-1 in both contests.
To win, the Orangeville offence is going to have to regain its stride and hopefully the return of a few key players, including forward Alex Guptill, will go a long way towards that end.
Game four of the series is slated for the Westwood Arena at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday where a win by the Crushers will send the two squads back to Orangeville Friday night for an 8 p.m. start at the Alder Street Community Centre.
