Millpond rehabilitation logo unveiling today

2010-02-25 / Local News

The Alton Mill site includes a three-acre millpond fed by Shaw’s Creek, a tributary of the Credit River. Part of the mill’s rehabilitation project is an environmental rehabilitation of the pond that has filled in over years and has deteriorated environmentally.

A project committee has been established to spearhead this undertaking, and part of that process will be to communicate to the community about the project and raise funds to implement this wonderful project.

To help with this, a logo contest was organized with grade 4, 5 and 6 students at Alton Public School under the guidance of teachers Judith Phillips and Christina Collings. The contest was held in the early part of February, and last Wednesday the contest committee reviewed three dozen logo submissions from the students. There were many excellent submissions, and we’ve picked a winner plus three runners up.

Dawn Friesen, one of the artists at the Alton Mill who is a professional graphic artist assisted in the selection, and has produced finished digital artwork based on the winning logo. The end result is truly fantastic. The logo is a strong image combining the best of the winning submission along with a colour scheme from one of the runners up. It will be an excellent starting point for all of our future correspondence, newsletters, signage, fundraising material, etc.

To thank the students and teachers, the mill has invited them to a an unveiling ceremony today (Thursday).
