Orangeville's Novice Select Flyers have been busy over the last few weeks.
Over the weekend of February 5-6, the Selects headed south to compete in the annual Oshawa Heritage Invitational Hockey Tournament.
Kingston was their first opponent of the weekend and they proved to be more than worthy adversaries, but a pair of goals from Brodie Norwich was all Orangeville needed to secure a 2-1 win.
Game two of the tournament pitted Orangeville against host Oshawa Falcons and the Flyers knew they had to come up big if they had any hopes of advancing to the semifinals. Brad Penney proved to be the inspiration in this one, scoring the hat trick while also tallying assists on three other goals. Ben Stenning kept pace with two goals and four assists. Brody Still rounded out the Flyers scoring with a pair of his own to boost Orangeville to a convincing 7-2 win.
A 2-1 loss to Oakville in their third game had Orangeville tied with Oakville in the standings, resulting in a semi-final berth against the Stoufville Clippers.
Tied 4-4 at the end of regulation play on a pair of goals from Stenning and singles by Guerra and Cameron Orr, the Flyers fate would be sealed in overtime. Playing 3-3, it was the Clippers who prevailed, scoring the game winner to take a 4-3 decision and end the weekend for Orangeville.
As usual, the goaltending duo of John Duggan and Barrett Ockenden were again outstanding.
Returning to regular season play against the Guelph Storm on February 12th, the Flyers quickly regained their winning form.
Connor Bruce opened the scoring early on a set up from Penney and Little before Stenning took a pass from Gavin Nix and deposited it in the Guelph net to make it 2- 0.
Still and Norwich sent Little in alone for one before Stenning finished of a pair of passes from the Corbett brothers to widen the lead.
Nix would score his second of the year on assists to Stenning and Ben Ferguson before Still found Rahn to wrap up the scoring for Orangeville and a 6-1 final score
Orangeville Novice select Flyers next see action at home on the ice of the Alder Street Green rink on February 27 when they play host to Cambridge in a 7:30 p.m. start.
