Aggreko employee helped power Olympics
Among the millions who watched the impressive athletic feats at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games was Orangeville resident Ryan Hussey, who is neither spectator, athlete or volunteer.
Rather, Mr. Hussey was working at the Aggreko service centre in Vancouver as a technician for Aggreko, a global leader in temporary power and temperature control.
As the Official Supplier of Temporary Power and Temperature Control Solutions for the 2010 Winter Games, Aggreko provided personnel and rental power and heating equipment at all of the Vancouver and Whistler venues throughout the Games.
“At Aggreko, we are very proud of the professionalism of our employees, which comes from their dedication, experience, and desire for excellence,” said George Walker, President, Aggreko, LLC. “We have the best fleet in the world, but our people are the reason Aggreko is chosen again and again for the world’s biggest events.”
Aggreko also distributed power generated from renewable sources at 30 Olympic venues using 500 miles of cable and more than 1,800 electrical distribution panels. The company installed over 90 MW of primary and stand-by generators at venues – enough to supply power to a large town.
Aggreko had over 100 people working in Vancouver and Whistler supporting the Games.
The firm was also responsible for the main supply of power for the Opening Ceremony at BC Place as well as stand-by power to the International Broadcast Centre, which was responsible for transmitting the ceremony to an estimated three billion viewers worldwide.
Aggreko has a wealth of experience providing power and temperature control to the most high profile events in the world, including eight Olympic Games, the U.S. Presidential Inauguration in 2009, the Ryder Cup and the Daytona 500.
