Orangeville Police have arrested and charged a 35- year-old Orangeville man in connection with a robbery at the 7-Eleven convenience store, in the early hours of Saturday January 23.

At about 3:20 a.m., two persons entered the store at 268 Broadway, one of whom demanded that the lone attendant fill a bag with cash.

Police say a small amount of cash was turned over, as well as several cartons of cigarettes. Although the robber was brandishing a weapon, no one was injured during the incident. The two fled the store on foot toward Broadway.

The resultant police investigation led to the arrest of Michael John Heaton, 35, without incident, on February 18. He was charged with several criminal offences, including robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, uttering threats and breach of probation.

The accused was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on March 16 to answer to the allegations.

A female was questioned by police but was not charged as a result of the investigation.
