Northmen names make World Field rosters

2010-03-11 / Sports

Orangeville will again find themselves well represented on the world lacrosse stage with the announcements of the rosters for the Mens's 2010 and U19 Womens 2011 National field lacrosse teams.

In a release issued earlier this week by the Canadian Lacrosse Association, the final 23-man roster was announced. They will be traveling to the World Championships in Manchester, England this summer..

Leading the names of local players named to the squad were defensemen Phil Sanderson and brothers, Patrick and Brodie Merrill.

Evan Kirk has earned himself a berth between the pipes for the National squad and will joined by veteran goaltender Chris Sanderson, who backstopped the Canadian team to gold against the Americans before the home crowd at the 2006 championships in London, Ontario.

The association also pared down the selections vying for a berth on the Womens U19 National team who will travel to the 2011 FIL World Championship to be held in Hanover Germany.

Following a pair of training camps which were held at ACTS in Orangeville earlier this year, the coaching staff narrowed the number of candidates down to 35.

They will participate in the next phase of the selection which will determine the final 18 players.

Included on that list are five names familiar to the Northmen womens program and they are Cian Dabrowski, Klaysa Fitzpatrick, Mackenzie Neal, Tori Quinn and Carly Wilson.
