Perfect 10 start for boxer Cotton-McGuinness

2010-03-11 / Sports

Logan Cotton- McGuinness made it tenin a-row this past weekend, going the distance to take an eight round decision over Pedro Navarrette in boxing at the Casino Montreal.

Navarrette has likely been the toughest fighter the 22-year-old Orangeville native has boxed to date, and Cotton- McGuinness went into the bout knowing he was going to have his work cut out for him. Feeling out his opponent through most of the first round, Cotton-McGuinness changed it up a bit after that, doubling up his jabs to counter Navarrette on advice of his trainer Chris Johnson.

Speaking after the fight Cotton-McGuinness was pleased with the results but felt there is still room to improve. "My jab felt a lot faster. The first couple of rounds it felt like I was dropping it and coming back slow. I was landing some nice body shots but not enough". He noted how "his head was there to hit" and how Navarrette’s "body was soft and open but I just couldn't land the shots I wanted to".
