Nominees sought for Dr. David Scott Award
Nominations are now being invited for the 2010 Dr. David Scott Award.
“This is a great opportunity to recognize someone who has made a contribution to the overall wellbeing and betterment of health care for Dufferin- Caledon,” said Margot Hornseth, Chair of Headwaters Health Care Centre’s Board.
The award is granted to an individual or organization that has made a positive impact on the quality of local health care through their service to the community, leadership, advocacy of health care initiatives and services, or promotion of services between the community and Headwaters Health Care Centre.
Launched in 2000, the award was established in honor of Dr. David Scott’s many years of dedicated service to his profession and the community. A lifelong local resident, Dr. Scott has provided outstanding leadership in health care in our community. He practised general surgery in Orangeville from 1962 to 1997, and today is actively involved in physician recruitment with the Greater Dufferin Area Physician Search Committee.
Past award winners have worked hard to make a difference in people’s lives in Dufferin and Caledon. The award recognizes their outstanding accomplishments to improve access to care and spearheading volunteer and fundraising initiatives within our communities.
Previous recipients of the Dr. David Scott Award include: John (Doc) Gillies in 2005 for his charitable work in the community, including overseeing the construction of the new medical clinic; Don Stewart in 2006 for his outstanding contribution to the hospital, and other community projects in Shelburne, many of which were in support of health care; Dr. David Knox in 2007 for improving access to care in the community by establishing an afterhours clinic; Dori Ebel in 2008 for her fundraising and volunteer leadership with health care and children’s organizations, and her non-denominational spiritual work with the hospital’s chaplaincy program; and Larry Rankin in 2009 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to improve accessibility for people with disabilities in our community.
April 30 is the deadline for nominations. The winner will be presented with the award at the Hospital’s Annual General Meeting in June. Nomination forms are available online at www. headwatershealth.ca
