Tigers sweep to finals
The Royal Bank Orangeville Tigers Bantam B girl’s hockey team just finished an incredible run in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League playoffs.
The first round was against the Georgina Golden Hawks. The Tigers had beaten Georgina in all four regular season games however, the majority had been very close.
With Emily Henderson backstopping a perfect game in the opening game of the series, Orangeville took care of business early posting a 1-0 win at home.
The next night both teams squared off in Keswick and the Golden Hawks came away with a 1-0 win of their own.
On Sunday the teams played for the third consecutive day and the Tigers mauled the Golden Hawks 2-0 in convincing win to take the series 2-1. Henderson again was in net for the shutout.
The next round was against the Barrie Sharks, a team that had finished ahead of Orangeville in the regular season.
The first game in Barrie was a hard fought battle with Henderson earning her third shutout of the playoffs to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 win.
Three days later in Orangeville, the Tigers finished off the Sharks with a convincing 2-0 home win. Alecia Darrah was in the net for this shutout.
The final round was against the top team in the division – the Markham-Stouffville Stars.
The Stars were pretty confident but that did not last long.
Orangeville marched into the Stars home arena and won 2-1. Playing the next night back home in Orangeville, the Tigers stunned Markham - Stouffville to the delight of their fans, edging the Stars 3-2 and with the win, take the series 2-0.
The Tigers won three series with a record of 6-1 and four shutouts.
Next up is the LLFHL championship tournament with the four division champions (Orangeville is one of them) battling each other.
