Wolves set sights on tournament

The Orangeville Wolves are gearing up to host the Special Hockey International tournament here in Orangeville April 15th, 16th, and 17th.

For a tune-up they traveled to Brampton recently for a game against the Battalion and came away with a hard fought 5-4 victory.

Wolves sophomore Bradley Thompson opened the scoring mid way through the first with a deft deflection of a Michael McCreary pass out from the corner.

Brampton would then score two to take the lead before big Drew Irwin would score his first of the game to even things up with Scott Van Gerven and Wolves rookie Gordon Best drawing the assists.

The teams remained deadlocked entering the second before Wolves veteran Mackenzie Gidge gave the team the lead on a set up from McCreary and Matthew Moore.

Orangeville would then open up a two goal bulge with Frankie Spagnolo scoring off a nice feed from Irwin, James Mastine drew the second helper on the goal.

The Battalion battled back to tie the game mid way through the third before Irwin gave the vis- itors the victory with his second of the game. Vini Thomas and Gidge drew the assists on the game winner.

Adam Brown was strong for the Wolves playing the entire game in net in picking up the victory. “

Brownie” as he is known to his team mates kept his mates settled down by freezing the puck when things got frenzied several times late in the game.

The Wolves Shawn Chalmers also made the trip and was ever popular in his “Howler” mascot costume.
