The 12th annual version had its share of bright spots with a few notable highlights.

For the past ten years coach, Sam Young, has had a standing offer to reward the first player to break 70 with a one hundred dollar prize.

Many of Sam's outstanding Juniors in the past came close but never broke it.

This year however Kody Fry went where those before him could not and $100 richer, shooting a 69 on the tricky Whispering Woods layout, the club's home course during their week long stay.

Even though the Juniors practice during the winter at the indoor facility Parfect Conditions, it is never easy to gain mid-season form when traveling to the south on winter break and all the more remarkable posting that low of a score.

To show that was no fluke, Kody followed up with an afternoon round of 71 on the Donald Ross designed Southern Pines Golf Course.

Miki Schulz, 9, in her first trip to Pinehurst as part of the advanced program, shot a 53 from the advanced tees at Whispering Woods.

The Juniors averaged 12 rounds in their intensive training program with Stephanie Tucker playing 17 rounds due to three extra days in Pinehurst.

The kids played some great courses as usual. Pinehurst #1, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, (all Donald Ross designs) Arnold Palmer's ‘The Carolina’, the exclusive Country Club of Carolina and for the first time were able to play the Donald Ross designed Pine Needles, a three time USGA Ladies Open Course.

The final highlight was playing the exclusive Pinewild Golf

Community practice course by four of Sam's youngest female students.

They had the course to themselves and were admired by the membership who seemed genuinely happy to see them at their club.

With their intensive training behind them it is back to Parfect Conditions for another two weeks, then on to their own golf course at Shelburne Golf and Country Club to continue their preparations for the busy season ahead.
