Ideal dog park site sought
The debate continues as to what area of Orangeville should be going to the dogs.
The Leash Free Dog Park Committee, in consultation with town staff, has been investigating potential sites for an offleash dog park.
So far, the committee has identified six potential sites: Brown’s Farm Park, Erindale Park, an area off Lackey Drive, Harvey Curry Park, the storm water reservoir off Lisa Marie Drive and Myr Morrow Park.
Brown’s Farm and Erindale parks are the ones the committee feels come closest to meeting the 11 criteria it has set down for an ideal site.
Of the sites under consideration, Brown’s Farm is the only one considered “excellent.”
The report applauds its good size and parking availability, points out there is a water source nearby and that lighting is already in place.

Like Erindale, Harvey Curry has a “good” rating. Its proximity to Every Kids Park, however, has raised safety concerns and some neighbours are petitioning not to have the dog park situated there.
Mavis Hughes, a dog owner who lives close to Harvey Curry Park on Lawrence Ave., expressed her concerns in a letter to Mayor Rob Adams.
