Photo/MIKE MALONEY Area basketball fans had the chance to see some great ball as the Dufferin Family of Schools held their annual Boys and Girls Elementary School basketball championships this past week.

Held last Wednesday night at Westside Secondary, eight teams representing the four best boys and girls squads took the floor to battle it out for their respective A and B pool championships.

In B pool action, The boys from Island Lake brought their A game to the court, handily defeating Credit Meadows by a score of 28-11 while in The Girls B final, Mono Amaranth dropped the Hyland Heights Hawks 17-10.

A pool play brought together Laurelwoods and Princess Elizabeth together in the Girls championship contest where the Lightning doubled up 10-5 over their PEPS competition.

In what turned out to be the hardest fought battle of the night, it was again Princess Elizabeth and Laurelwoods going head to head in A pool boys play.

In a game that went right down to the final buzzer, this time it was Princess Elizabeth taking home championship bragging rights, edging the Lightning 19-18.

Organizers of the event want to thank everyone that participated; from parents and fans to teachers as well as the athletes themselves.

They all contributed to make this another tremendous evening of basketball. Special thanks also goes out to the referee's David Kirk and Carlo Zen who did an excellent job officiating all four games.
