Tilson stays as head of parliamentary body

Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson was re-elected as president of the allparty Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association on Tuesday, May 4, at the Association’s annual general meeting, in Ottawa.

“I’m pleased to be serving as President for a third term,” Mr. Tilson said. “Over the last three years, the Association has had many invaluable exchanges with our European counterparts on many issues of mutual importance.

“During these uncertain economic times, it is essential for Canada to build new relationships and strengthen old ones. Canada and Europe share many of the same current challenges and the Association is an excellent means to discuss and identify new approaches to overcome them.”

Mr. Tilson has served in the post since March 2008 and has also been a member of the association’s Executive Committee since 2004.

The association aims to facilitate exchanges between parliamentarians, in Canada, and representatives from various European institutions, with the objectives of promoting Canadian interests and fostering mutual cooperation. As its president, Mr. Tilson leads Canadian delegations traveling to Europe. In his role as president, he also hosts officials when they are visiting Canada.
