‘Identical’ health issues in other countries

Re: Wes Keller’s article (May 13) “Panel denies turbines harmful to health”:

The study referenced in this article is simply a review of existing literature that the wind lobby groups and developers are attempting to use to dismiss the health problems associated with wind turbines. It has been critiqued by more than one group of medical professionals. (See www. windvigilance.com)

The wind lobby groups, developers and our government have a very close relationship. This has created a huge imbalance of power, influence and money making it almost impossible for an adversely affected homeowner to defend themselves. It would be great if the citizens of this province had access to the some type of government funding that the proponents have available, so we could conduct our own much needed studies.

Mr. Keller has supplied a very impressive list of doctors and other professionals from the “expert panel” but fails to mention that these experts have not actually interviewed any of the victims. Wouldn’t that be the best place to start? And why is that, I wonder? Why is it that the McGuinty government chooses to ignore and dismiss the ever-growing reports from families who have been adversely affected? They are certainly aware of them. Why are so many families across this province being forced to leave their homes? Why does our government clearly favour wind developers over the health and well-being of Ontario families?

It is because of these unanswered questions that a major legal challenge has been launched against the government.

The comment that wind farms are commonplace in more than 70 countries around the world may be true. What is not mentioned is that these other countries are not without the identical health issues we are seeing in Ontario. One of the biggest problems has been the attempt to isolate and suppress negative information.

(Visit Epaw.org and you will find over 411 groups from over 20 European countries with the same issues as we have here in Ontario.)

There are problems in the U.S., Australia, Japan, Germany, Sweden, France, Denmark, England . . . and the list goes on.

The Conservative Party has called for a moratorium on any new wind farms until the health issues can be properly investigated. Why would anyone argue against this? The health of our families should come before any policy or mandate, regardless of how deep this government has sunk its teeth into it. Simple due diligence by our ministries before embarking on this life altering policy would have prevented this mess.
