A’s put up the numbers to go 5-0
Orangeville lacrosse fans are in for another exciting season as the Rayburn Construction Junior A Northmen improved their record to a perfect 5-0 with convincing wins over St Catharines, Akwesasne and Toronto Beaches this past weekend
First up were the Athletics who made the trek to Orangeville for the initial meeting of these two clubs this season.
St Catharines are favoured by some to be a contender in 2010 and looked evenly matched against Orangeville through first period with each team scoring once with the Northmen's goal coming on a power-play opportunity off the stick of Cody McMahon
In the second however, it was Orangeville taking it to the Athletics.
After dropping behind 2-1 in the opening minute of second period play, Brad Gillies found his scoring touch with a pair before Brandon Ivey teamed up with Deron Dempster and Blair Goss to make it 4-2.
St Catharines added one nearing the midway point, which was quickly cancelled out by singles from Dempster and Pat Saunders.
In the third, the Northmen continued to dominate. Ivey would add two more to his tally while Mike Teeter and Jeremy Noble each chipped in with one as the Northmen went on to double up over the Athletics by a final score of 10-5.
Still playing at home Sunday night, it was Akwesasne who next fell squarely in the Northmen sights.
In this their second meeting of the year, Orangeville wasted no time in setting the pace.
With Brandon Ivey holding the hot hand for Orangeville scoring five goals, the Northmen controlled this game from start to finish. Up 8-1 after one period, they added three more goals in each the second and third periods to roll onto a 14-3 decision.
Other Orangeville marksmen included McMahon, Saunders and Rob Hellyer each with two, Dustin Caravello, Dempster and Teeter rounded out the scoring while Dillon Ward played two solid periods between the Orangeville pipes before giving Mike Robinson a chance to see some floor time in the third.
Monday, the Northmen wrapped up the Victoria Day Weekend with a trip to the beach but this one wasn't beside a lake, it was at the Ted Reeve Arena in Toronto.
Picking up where they left off the game
homer deep over the left field fence to give Orangeville a 8-6 lead.
Alma would chip back with on more in the top of seven to draw within one but Kings reliever Scott Gordon and the Orangeville defense shut down the Dawgs to post an 8-7 win.
And the bats were alive this Tuesday night at Idlewyld for the Kings again. With Arthur taking up residence on the visitor’s bench, Orangeville was less than gracious hosts, exploding for 16 runs to take a 16-2 decision over the Merchants.
The Kings next take to the diamond Monday May 31st in Grand Valley against the Athletics then back home on Tuesday hosting the Dundalk Smoke at 9 p.m.
