Grand-Prix of the future? - ODSS hosts Electric Car Race

SPOR TS Th is past weekend while millions of viewer's were focused on the rich spectacle of racing history that was the Indianapolis 500, a much smaller but no less enthusiastic group of racers with an eye to the future gathered in Orangeville to take part in the fifth annual ODSS Electric Car Races.

Approximately 80 students representing 10 schools and six different school boards from across Central Ontario, along with their supporters and a group of local volunteers, were on hand for the event.

The race was held on a course specifically designed for the event in the school's parking lot, which had racers not going for speed but distance. Two races were held, one for 12-volt cars and another for 24-volt entries with the winner being determined by the highest number of laps finished over a onehour period.

Bluevale Collegiate Institute from Waterloo dominated with their cars finishing 1-2 in both races while Our Lady of Lourdes took third in each as well.

CDDHS from Shelburne also had an entry in this year's event and while not making it onto the winners podium, the three ODSS cars set new distance records for their efforts.
