Orangeville Mazda to return to court in July
The former Orangeville Mazda dealership owned by Sunny Bains, along with former employees Kien Trung and Mohammed Shaikh, is scheduled to make a further appearance in Provincial Offences Court here on July 7.
The three accused did not appear before Justice eof the Peace Michael Barnes but were represented by council.
Prosecutor Chris Ezrin appeared on behalf of the provincial Consumer Protection Act.
The dealership owner and the two employees were charged under the Act after Madeline Leonard, 56, of Orangeville complained that she had paid in total $66,000 for a 2010 Mazda demonstrator that had a value of $41,000.
The allegation has not been proven in court, but Mr. Bains is reported to have cancelled Ms. Leonard’s purchase agreement and to have repaid her whatever money she had paid toward the contract.
Meantime, Mazda Canada cancelled Mr. Bains’s franchise and now has a new dealer for the Orangeville area.
The charges against the three accused are sufficiently serious that, if found guilty, the dealership could face a maximum penalty of $250,000 and the employees could be fined as much as
100,000 each and/or two years less a day in jail. The provincial regulator could also revoke their registrations to sell vehicles.
