The target: marry cancer, cure

The beginning of August signals another opportunity for Mark’s Work Wearhouse and Access Fitness to ask the community to come out and help them meet their goal of $23,000 to go toward curing cancer.
Since May, Mike Lockey, sales manager at Mark’s Work Wearhouse, his sister Amanda and the owners of Access Fitness have teamed up to raise money for the walk for cancer they will be doing in September.
In May they started off their fundraising with custom merchandise and a 50- 50 raffle. They did a dry run of the Walk to End Cancer 60K run during their Ladies Night celebrations.
Mr. Lockey said that it was while they were thinking up fundraising ideas that the idea of a buck and doe came out of the woodwork.
On August 7 the Tony Rose Banquet Hall will be housing a buck and doe of a different kind of marriage.
“We should marry cancer with a cure,” Mr. Lockey said.
The event starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m.. They managed to get a special permit for this event so it will be fully licensed. Mr. Lockey commented that alcohol was a good way to raise money for the cause but this also means that anyone who wished to attend will have to be age of majority in order to purchase a ticket.
Attendees can look forward to some typical buck and doe games and events. There will be a toonie toss, joker poker, and jailhouse plus much more. There will be door prizes available as well.
According to Mr. Lockey they are about $10,000 away from their goal and he is hoping the buck and doe will ‘raise a huge chunk of it’.
“The biggest thing is we’re really working and we’re really out there really striving to make a whole lot of money for a really great cause,” said Mr. Lockey.
The event organizers are paying for the use of the Tony Rose Banquet Hall out of their own pockets with the hope that the community will come out for a good night and support their cause.
Everyone who will be helping out with the event is donating their time to this event.
“I’ve got a DJ who has volunteered his time, all the bar tenders have all volunteered their time, everybody working the event is all volunteer so basically 100% of the proceeds go directly to the cause,” said Mr. Lockey.
Finesy’s DJ and Entertainment Services will be in charge of the music throughout the night. Pizza will be sold from 9 until 12 as well as more of the cancer merchandise.
Mr. Lockey stated he is confident it will be a great night, “We’re really encouraging people to get out and buy a ticket and commit to supporting great cause.”
