A head-on collision on Dufferin Road 109 near Waldemar led to two drivers being airlifted to Sunnybrook Trauma Centre in Toronto Monday afternoon.

Dufferin OPP say the collision occurred at a point west of Amaranth’s 8th line and east of East Garafraxa’s 15th line.

Police say the collision occurred when a westbound red Pontiac Sunfire crossed the centre line and struck an eastbound blue Honda Civic. As a result of the collision both drivers suffered serious injuries. The highway was closed for several hours while the OPP’s Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene.

The police investigation revealed that a large commercial truck – possibly a dump truck, gravel truck or tractor-trailer – was traveling eastbound directly ahead of the Honda immediately prior to the collision. The truck is believed to have taken evasive action to avoid colliding with the Pontiac. Police are interested in speaking with the driver of that truck, and ask that the truck driver or any others with information concerning the crash to contact Provincial Constable Scott Doney at 519-925-3838.

Names of the drivers were being withheld pending completion of the investigation.
