Which way do I go?

Bob McLellan Bob McLellan Imagine for a moment you had a dream in which you woke up inside a dream, in a location surrounded by trees. Those who enjoy, or at least have experienced the thrill of camping in the woods can picture this situation more easily, but I am sure if you think about it, you can see the trees if you want to, right?

As you slowly turn in a complete circle to acquaint yourself with your surroundings, you notice the sun breaking through in various locations above your head, providing a patchwork of brightness on the ground around you.

What you come to understand, as you become more aware of your situation is, beyond where you are standing, there are trees everywhere and a great deal of undergrowth as well.

Aside from the obvious question of, where am I, there lies the intensifying thought, how do I get out of here?

At this moment, some indication of where to go and how to get there would be good, would it not? Turning slowly to the right, you notice what looks like an overg rown path. Maybe this should be the way you should go, or are there any there any other options to choose from? In that moment of questioning, you remember an almost forgotten thought, from your past, telling you, when in doubt, look for a high spot to assess your situation before taking action. Where would that thought have come from?

But you realize, attempting to get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area just might help you know which direction

go. After climbing a climbable tree and viewing the surrounding area you know the way you need to go.

While this was only a dream, have you ever found yourself in a situation, wondering, what do I do now, where do I go

from

rom here?

It just

eems like you are lost in a stand of r e e so how to proceed or which way to go, doesn’t it. Even the only path you might have considered seems less than desirable and leaves you wondering, is this really the way to go?

In such a situation, it would be a good idea to look up, to think about the possibility, there is One who has a bird’s eye view of the situation and who could help and direct you, if you would follow His leadings in your life. The Psalmist declared in Psalms 121, “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? {2} My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. {3} He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; {4} indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. {5} The LORD watches over you-- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; {6} the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. {7} The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life; {8} the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

I remember learning a chorus as a child in Sunday School, maybe you remember it also.

The words announced, “My Lord, knows the way thorough the wilderness, all I have to do is follow.”

When you are not sure how to proceed, following the leading of God as outlined in the Bible and guided by the Holy Spirit, just makes good sense, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t you rather trust God, than continue to be lost, wondering which way to go?
