Orangeville man wins $50,000 ‘backyard makeover’

Stewart Sebben of Orangeville is the grand prize winner in Home Hardware’s $50,000 Ultimate Backyard Makeover Contest.

The contest ran across Canada from April 5 to May 30, with more than 500,000 Canadians entering for a chance to win the dream makeover.

“On behalf of Home Hardware, Buddy Pitt and his staff at Orangeville Home Hardware Building Centre, we are thrilled to present a prize of this magnitude to Stewart,” said Paul Straus, Vice President and CEO, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “$50,000 combined with the quality products, exceptional service and advice of Home Hardware, will create a backyard retreat that will bring years of enjoyment for Stewart and his family.”

Mr. Straus explained that the prize can be used for a major project, such as new deck, shed or interlocking brick and other items such as a barbecue, patio set and planters.

Mr. Sebben was presented with the prize at a special celebration ceremony at Orangeville Home Hardware on Wednesday.

“I was extremely excited when I found out I was the Grand Prize winner,” he said.

“I can't wait for the makeover to get under way, and with all the amazing products Home Hardware has to offer, I can't wait to show-off my new backyard to family and friends.”

One ballot was chosen randomly, from all those from across Canada, as the Grand Prize winner. One entrant was awarded the second prize, of a rechargeable riding lawnmower; 10 entrants won Yardman lawnmowers; and 100 entrants were awarded a Beauti-Tone Woodshield certificate.
