Northmen B season ends in Ohsweken
2010 was a year they regained their pride in themselves and stature among the league. But try as they might, the MacMaster Pontiac Buick GMC Northmen just couldn't find a way past Six Nations, who defeated Orangeville 11-4 last Thursday night to sweep their Ontario Lacrosse Association Western Conference semi-final.
Playing at the Gaylord Powless Arena in Ohsweken, Orangeville needed a win to keep their play-off hopes alive against the unbeaten Rebels.
Not wanting to give the Northmen any advantage, Six Nations made sure they were first to the board - getting out to a 4-0 lead before Jake Thompson popped a power-play marker at the 6:16 mark with the help of Brandon Benn and Dustin Caravello.
Andrew Stoner narrowed the gap to one 38 seconds later only to have Six Nations add three more to end the first period of play leading 6-2.
Off the top of two, Stoner would again be the go-to-guy, taking a pass from Benn to score shorthanded at 2:54.
Caravello made it 6-4 seconds later before the Wayne VanEvery show took over for Six Nations with VanEvery scoring his third, fourth and and final fifth goal of the game early in the third all but sealing the Northmen's fate.
An empty netter by the Rebel at 9:03 and then another with 4:24 left would wrap up the scoring while earning Six Nations a berth in the next round the win.
