Dufferin Child and Family Services (DCAFS) is one of four groups in her riding that will be able to enhance their programs thanks to new Ontario Trillium Foundation grants announced by Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon.

“I am pleased that nonprofit organizations in our community have access to lottery and gaming revenues to enhance education and social services for our residents,” she said.

The Trillium Foundation has awarded the following grants to groups in Dufferin- Caledon:

• Dufferin Child and Family Service has been awarded $53,400 over one year to implement a train-the-trainer program in support of the Dufferin Diversity Network. Those trained will go on to train staff at nine 10 16 not-forprofit agencies in Dufferin County.

• Abbeyfield House Society of Caledon will get $34,900 over one year to purchase furnishings and equipment for gathering rooms and common spaces that will create open and friendly community gathering places for seniors in Caledon East.

• Catholic Family Services of Peel-Dufferin will receive $145,500 over two years to support staffing, partnership development and planning required in anticipation of a new Family Justice/Child Advocacy Centre, where victims of domestic violence and child abuse will be able to obtain a variety of services all under one roof. This new multi-disciplinary centre, proposed for 2012, will provide a more coordinated response to victims of abuse in Peel region.

• Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services will get $112,500 over two years to build a framework for collaboration that will strengthen the work of 18 organizations that provide mental health services to youth and adults in Wellington and Dufferin counties.

“I am delighted these four projects were chosen,” said Ms Jones. As Progressive Conservative critic for Community and Social Services and Children and Youth Services, she added that she was “pleased that families and children will be directly supported with these grants.”

For over 25 years, the Ontario Trillium Foundation has been providing grants to community organizations across the province.
