The Town of Orangeville and Orangeville Public Library Board this week announced the appointment of Darla Fraser as Chief Librarian, effective August 30.

A resident of Orangeville since 1998, Ms. Fraser is no stranger to the library, having served on the library board since 2004 and as board chair from January 2009 to June 2010 when she resigned in order to apply for the Chief Librarian position.

“Darla Fraser was a very passionate chair of the Library Board,” current board chair Todd Taylor said, in congratulating Ms. Fraser. “In her new role as Chief Librarian I am confident she will make a significant positive contribution to the library and ultimately Orangeville. I am very pleased she has accepted this important position with the Town.”

Currently employed by the County of Dufferin, Ms. Fraser was hired in 2002 as the part-time Data Analysis Co-ordinator for the Ontario Early Years Centres. She attended the University of Toronto as a mature student, completing a Master of Information Studies degree (Library Stream) in 2004 and is currently the Community Services Manager, Research and Program, for Dufferin.

“I am honoured to have been chosen as the new Chief Librarian for the Town of Orangeville,” Ms. Fraser said. “I would like to thank the selection committee for displaying confidence in me and offering me this opportunity. I look forward to working in this wonderful library system with its experienced and professional staff.”

Ms. Fraser and her husband David, both originally from Rexdale, have two sons, Richard, 12, and Ian, 10. In her leisure time, Ms. Fraser enjoys jigsaw puzzles and reading, as well as water skiing and wakeboarding at a family cottage in the Bracebridge area.

Orangeville Public Library has two branches: the downtown Mill Street location, which has been operating since 1908, and the Alder Street branch location which opened its doors in 2004 at the Alder Street Recreation Centre. For hours of operation, visit www.orangeville.library.o n.ca.
