A voice from the past

2010-07-29 / Mailbox

T’other day I was rummaging through what I laughingly refer to as my filing system and I came across a substantial bundle of copy articles that I wrote for the ‘Citizen’ in the 1980’s.

Is there anyone there today who might possibly remember me? ...sounds like a lead-in to a seance, doesn’t it? but then, after all these years, I might just need one. People move on - in many senses of the expression - and I know for sure of several old friends from my Orangeville salad bar days who are no longer among us.

I still treasure the commemorative plate that I was given at my farewell dinner in 1988. It’s taken out of the cabinet and given its ritual dusting whenever I can summon up the courage and banish the vertigo to stand on a stool to reach it. I shall soon be 73, healthier than I have any right to be and scribble only for my own amusement nowadays. I did win a story competition on BBC local radio a few years ago, and on re- reading it, it’s exactly the sort of stuff I forced on an unsuspecting public in Orangeville all those years ago....Something about leopards and spots, I suppose.

Anyway, if there IS anyone around who might remember me, and to whom I don’t owe vast sums of money, a quick line would be most appreciated.

All success to the ‘Citizen’ Thank you for the time you allowed me some ink to play with.
