2 grants available for local not-for-profits
A BLIZZARD OF CHARITY: Last Thursday was annual Miracle Treat Day at the Orangeville Dairy Queen and, as of press time, sales were still being tallied. Owner/operator John Lockyer did report that sales of Blizzard treats – with the proceeds going to help hospitalized children – were over $12,000, exceeding last year’s totals. Essentially, the funding group’s strategy is akin to the saying from Confucius. “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”
The $40,000 coming from the United Way is targeted for programs that address existing or emerging community social needs.
In a press release, the Not-for-profit funding group said the United Way funding, along with the Trillium grant, “complement each other well.
“The United Way grant helps address the community’s social service needs and the NFP Support and Capacity Building grant supports projects aimed at responding to community needs in more effective and sustainable ways. We think that’s a pretty powerful combination.”
Deadline for United Way grant applications is August 27, while the deadline for building grant applications is October 1.
