Borden registers for fourth term as trustee

Bob Borden, who is currently completing his ninth year as a trustee on the Upper Grand District School Board, announced Wednesday that he has registered for the October 25 municipal election. He is seeking re-election as the English public school board trustee for Orangeville for the 2011- 14 term.

“Over the past several months, I have given it considerable thought and discussion with supporters,” he said. “It is critical, given what is on the horizon around our Board and province, that the public school supporters of Orangeville be represented by someone who has demonstrated a passion for public education and the knowledge and skills to deal with all the issues before the Board.”

As well as having been Orangeville’s trustee for nine years, Mr. Borden is currently completing his sixth term as Chair of the Upper Grand board. “It is this proven leadership,” he said, “of bringing the Board through some very difficult issues and decisions, that I’ll bring back to the Board table on behalf of Orangeville.”

Issues to be addressed by the new Board include the implementation of the expanding Dufferin French immersion program, an accommodation review involving all 13 elementary and three secondary schools in Dufferin, and the implementation of full-day early learning for JK/SK students in Orangeville.

“I have enjoyed talking with, listening to, problem solving with and representing the public school supporters of Orangeville. Over the past nine years, we have dealt with some complex issues and I look forward to working with the public on the challenges that we’ll face over the next four years. Orangeville deserves a strong public education system.”
